Angela Patricia Burgess

Angela Burgess, 78, of Wilmington NC, formerly of Medford, Ma, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday January 24, 2022. Angel was born in Cambridge MA on January 2, 1944, the daughter of the late Andrew and Lorraine (Giardiello) Price. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, John Burgess Sr who died in 2012. Angel was the devoted mother of John Burgess Jr and his wife Danae of Wilmington, NC, Rene Dockery and her husband David Dockery of Nottingham, NH and Christopher Burgess and his wife Kimberly of Manchester, NH. She is survived by her sisters Janet Knaub and her husband Michael of Colorado Springs, CO and her sister Lori Swaim and her husband Royce of Tolar, Tx. She is predeceased by her sisters, Andrea Jordan and Patricia Price. Loving grandmother of Corrina Hynds, Kourtnie Guzman, Jonathan, Brandon, Deirdre and Rin Burgess, Brett and Alyssa Dockery, Christopher, Nicholas, Zachary and Parker Burgess. Adored great grandmother to Gabriel, Hannah, Kiera, Delilah and Scarlett. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Angel lived in Medford, MA most of her life and graduated from Medford High School. She chose to go into the field of nursing and graduated from the Malden School of Nursing in 1964. She started her career as a staff nurse in a small Boston hospital where she eventually moved into the Director of Nursing position. She enjoyed her time in the hospital and met her dearest friends who she maintained a longstanding bond up until her passing. Angel was known to be fun loving, compassionate, outgoing and a loyal friend. The greatest lesson she passed on to all who knew her was one of generosity and recognition that everyone she crossed paths with was important and brought something to her life. When the hospital closed, she moved onto various leadership positions including assistant administrator and nursing director of two large health care centers and subsequent positions as clinical directors in various health care settings until her retirement. Angel was passionate about spending time with her family. She married her husband, John, on June 14, 1964. Together they raised their three children in Medford. The greatest joy in her life came with the title of Grammie. Her grandchildren’s memories are filled with nights of sleepovers at Grammie and Grampie’s house and trips to the Science Museum and Aquarium. A day with Grammie was a day of adventure and fun. Since 2018, Angel lived in Wilmington NC with her son and his wife which brought her closer to her great grandchildren whom she adored. As a family, we will certainly miss her bright light and her presence in our lives. However, we will walk away knowing that the lessons that she taught us and the love we were given will be passed down through her legacy to her children and grandchildren.
