Brenda Gail Calloway

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mom Gail after a lengthy illness. She is a very loved mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She is survived by her Daughter Autumn and her husband Dennis, her son Rocky and girlfriend Christina, her grandsons Hunter, Mason, and Shaun. She fiercely loved and protected her kids and grandkids with all her heart. We are sad but rejoice in the fact that she is no longer suffering. She is now reunited with her father, Roy Calloway, in heaven whom she truly missed her whole life since his sudden passing when she was 14 yrs old. Mom led and amazing and extraordinary life. From being a model in the early 70's and working in the music industry with all the great bands of the time who she still kept in contact with, even most recently traveling to Greece with Brian Johnson the lead singer of AC/DC. She had many other careers and passions. She was an engineer, Television Producer, Business owner, and several other cool jobs that she loved. She was very well known in the Wilmington community, even started the Thalian association's Children's theatre in the 1980's. After her breast cancer diagnoses she founded a local nonprofit charity named Tata Sisterhood of the Cape Fear which she was very passionate about. She raised thousands of dollars through many fundraisers and the Calendar's she printed with other survivors and some famous people, and donated 100% of the profits directly to women in need in the community and for this she was nominated for the prestigious WILMA woman of the year award in 2013. She truly loved helping others never expecting anything in return. She loved good music and took us to many concerts when we were growing up and always loved talking about her music industry days and telling everyone fun stories about all the people she knew. She also loved being a TV producer and history documentary producer and even produced a soap opera (Wilmington Heat) and children's program (Riverboat Bob) in the early 1990's. Our mom was an amazing woman and will truly be missed by all who knew her. She will forever be rockin on in our hearts and souls. RIP mom aka Maw maw choo choo. In the words of one of her favorite Beatle's songs we sing "Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these broken wings and learn to fly All your life you were only waiting for this moment to arise Black bird, fly, black bird fly into the light of the dark black night" We will be celebrating her life on Saturday October 17th at 2:00pm at the Fort Fisher Rocks a place she truly loved. Please join us in your favorite Tie dyed shirt or your favorite Band shirt to celebrate her true Peace love and Rock n Roll spirit. We love you mom
