George Everett Sagen

George Everett Sagen, 80, of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, went to be with his Heavenly Father, April 4, 2020. George is survived by his three children, Melissa Johnston (Waring) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Denise Sagen of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Kevin Sagen (Dana) of Greensboro, North Carolina. Four grandchildren, Madison and Logan Johnston and Bailey and Tanner Sagen. Two sisters, Karen Weis (Tom) of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Nancy DeBruin (Dennis) of Cumming, Iowa. Two nieces, Tami Wolden of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Elizabeth Updegraff of Des Moines, Iowa. One nephew Mark Weis of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. George is predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Esther Sagen and sister, Judith Sagen. George was born in Hixton, Wisconsin on May 25, 1939. After graduating in 1957 from Central High School of LaCrosse, Wisconsin he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Biloxi, MS. Here is where George got his first taste of southern ocean life. George’s photography career led him to the coast of North Carolina, choosing Wrightsville Beach to settle down. Instead of retirement, George became everyone’s entrusted handyman, known simply as “George” on his business card. Life for George was the water, living on his boat, fishing and crabbing, projects, the coffee club, and his treasured friendships. We all would agree he was a phenomenal character. He was kind and gentle and ready to listen, yet a prankster at heart. All that knew George would agree –he will find a way to continue his jokes from the other side. George Everett Sagen, father, brother, grandfather and friend, will be greatly missed. We will embrace the cherished memories he has left for each of us. There will be a Celebration of George’s Life at the Federal Point Yacht Club, to be announced at a later date.
