Homer Glenn Sanderson

Homer Glenn Sanderson, 72, of Carolina Beach, NC, passed away on July 8, 2025 at Novant New Hanover Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Wilmington, NC, on December 28, 1952, son of the late Homer Thadeus Sanderson and the late Winnie Louise Moore Sanderson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Gayle Sanderson Bergamini and brother in law, Edward Bentley Bergamini. He is survived by the love of his life and his soulmate, Sarah Haydu. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Paul Sanderson, sister-in-law, Kara Disbrow Sanderson, nephew, Edward Bentley (Ben) Bergamini II, stepchildren Leslie Carlton and spouse George, Amy Hawkins and spouse Heath, Zachary Long and spouse Mandy, grandchildren Kelsey, Trevor, and Wyatt, great grandchildren Chloe, Kayden, and Hardyn and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Glenn’s presence will be greatly missed by Sarah’s whole family, especially his nine nieces and nephews who affectionately called him Uncle BooBoo. Glenn is also survived by too many friends to count; friends he loved and admired completely. Glenn graduated from John T. Hoggard High School. He then attended UNCW, where he was a proud member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, Gamma Theta pledge class of 1974. Glenn found his true calling when he joined Yamaha Motor Corporation on September 25, 1995 as part of the Marine Group. He worked as a Senior District Marketing Manager until his retirement February 2, 2024. While at Yamaha, he made the Gold Team twelve times and twice won Marketing Representative of the Year. Glenn absolutely loved his profession in the boating industry, but loved his coworkers, boat dealers, and friends he met along the way even more. Glenn enjoyed anytime he spent outdoors, whether it was hunting, hiking the trails in the woods with Sarah and their dog, just working on his land in St. Helena, or sitting on the porch of his cabin. Glenn’s greatest passion was the ocean – boating, fishing, or just watching the tide roll in and out. He was a lifelong surfer who traveled many places with friends and loved ones in search of the perfect wave. He is certainly surfing perfect waves in Heaven now. At his home, Glenn has a note taped to a surfboard that says, “The idea is to die young, as late as possible.” Glenn was grateful for every day he lived and loved, and felt young at heart and in his soul until the day he died. A Surfer’s Paddle Out is planned for Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. on Carolina Beach at the Public Beach Access on Hamlet Avenue. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, 900 Loggerhead Road, Kure Beach, NC 28449. Food and drinks will be served, dress is casual, and Glenn would say flip flops welcome.
