Joan Jasinkiewicz

Joan Elizabeth Jasinkiewicz of Hampstead, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 27,2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with her daughter Madelyn Hopkins-Barrett and granddaughter Holly Lynn Stokes at her side. Joan was born September 15, 1931 to Maude May Conklin and Robert Tudor Hopkins. Her brother, Robert Hopkins and parents preceded her in death, as well as, her husband, Joseph Jasinkiewicz. After graduating from Patterson General Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. Joan was a Nurse Manager for over 60 years at various hospitals in Florida and New Jersey. Joan later pursued advanced degrees in Sociology, Human Development and Business Management. Along with her managerial role of the surgical and ambulatory departments, her most recent role also included developing budgets, assisting in the design and construction of new surgical and ambulatory suites, as well as, the purchase of all equipment and staffing. Joan also served as the evening weekend supervisor at Summit Nursing Home and IV Therapist at Kimbal Medical Center. Joan enjoyed teaching at the Middlesex, NJ Vocational Program for LPN’s. She was very active in the Association for Operating Room Nurses (A.O.R.N.) serving as President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. She was the Guest Speaker for the Association of Operating Room Nursing (A.O.R.N.) National Convention and local AORN Chapter. Joan was listed in Who’s Who in American Nursing from 1985-2008. Joan was a passionate member of Eastern Star Gloria Chapter #159. She served as Worthy Matron from 2004-2005 and again in 2009-2010. From 2006-2007, Joan served a Worthy District Deputy and as Worthy Color Bearer from 2011-2012. Joan was passionate about education; serving on the Eastern Star Scholarship Board as its Chairman from 2005-2009. She loved helping others in need through her service on the Eastern Star Charity Foundation Board of Directors from 2004-2009. Joan served as District Chairman for the Eastern Star Home from 2005-2006. Joan was the mother to four children: Kevin Hutsell, Sam Hopkins, daughter-in-law Victoria, Madelyn Hopkins-Barrett, son-in-law Keith and Mark McGlumphy, daughter-in-law Deborah Ann and three grandchildren: Holly Stokes, Donnatella Galderese and Tracey Widdis and her husband Matthew Widdis, five great-grandchildren: Madison Dyas, Olivia Dyas, Kaylee Widdis, Connor Widdis and Casey Widdis. She is survived by one orange and white cat named Otto who has been by her side for 14 years. Joan enjoyed travel; taking many trips with her children, grandchildren and husband throughout the United States and abroad. She enjoyed Broadway shows, music, the beach and singing in the church choir. A special thanks to the Pender County First Responders, New Hanover Regional Medical Center I.C.U. Teams and Home Instead Senior Care for the care provided to Joan during her last year. A service will be planned at a later date.
