Yvon Morris

Yvon Dunbar-Morris was born in Harlem, New York on August 16, 1939. She was the daughter of The Late Samuel and Edna Dunbar. Yvon grew up and was educated in the school systems in Harlem New York. She enjoyed ballet, attending summer camp, photography, excelling in the area of arts and crafts. Yvon studied and graduated with an Associate Degree, majoring in interior design, from The City University of New York. Yvon met David Morris in San Diego, California in 1990. They fell in love and entered into a marriage filled with love and admiration on September 30, 1992. Yvon and David traveled to the Grand Caman Islands and connected with Yvon's relatives who resided in the British West Indies. Yvon, being the youngest of three siblings were First Generation Americans. She was employed in the sales industry for many years, retiring at an early age. She and David resided several years in California. They later relocated to North Carolina which is David's birth state. Yvon introduced David to Unity Denomination where he found his spiritual teachings were in alignment with the practices of Unity. They both became active members. At Unity, Yvon and David especially enjoyed singing and performing in the Variety Shows. Yvon and David held their 25th year re-commitment ceremony at Unity in the year of 2016. They were so grateful for the gift of 30 years together, and for the loving support of family and their Unity Family. Above all, Yvon cherished her family and many friends. Yvon leaves to cherish her memories to her loving and devoted husband, David Morris of the home; one daughter, Angela Shelton of Austin, TX, two sons: Alexander and Artemus Shelton (Yesenia) of Austin, TX; two Grandchildren: Antonio and Sophia of Austin, TX. Yvon was the Step-Mother to Jeffrey Morris, Gina Morris Mack and Daryl Morris. She was the Step Grand-Mother of six Grand-Children: Kisha, Kim, Kourtney, Melvin, Kevin Mack (deceased) and Karlee Mack-Kareem (Yakubu); one Sister-in-Law, Ruth Morris Beatty. Yvon was preceded in death by her two brothers. There are a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Yvon’s Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 1:00 PM at St. Jude’s Metropolitan Community Church located at 19 N 26th St, Wilmington, NC 28405 with Reverend Paula Zabkar, Officiating.
