Mary T. Webb

Mary T. Webb, 87, of Wilmington, NC entered into eternal rest on January 27th, 2021; and on that day, her family believes that Heaven became a happier place, with Mary there. Mary was born to Daniel and Angela Green in New Hartford, NY; and at birth, brought joy and laughter into the world. Mary had two brothers, Daniel J., and Philip, who both predeceased her. After graduation from New Hartford High School, Mary married Douglas R. Waite and they had four children during their life together in New Hartford. Tragically, Mary and Doug’s beloved youngest child, Brian, died as the result of a car accident, at the young age of 16 years – and they missed him, every single day, for the rest of their lives. Mary had a diverse and interesting career life while she raised her children. Mary worked as a computer-programmer, a high school switchboard operator, a business owner of “Mary’s Wigs and Cosmetics” and as an exotic bird breeder – and was successful at each. 2 Mary had a zest for life and lived her life to the fullest. Mary thrived when she was in the company of others and being involved in a multitude of activities. In her younger years, Mary was an avid runner. She ran daily to train for the Utica Boilermaker Race, in which she once medaled in her division. In her later years, Mary walked daily with her treasured teacup poodle, Mini Pearl. If you knew Mary, you know that she loved sports and games and was competitive. Mary was a regular mahjong player with her special friends in Landfall, Brunswick Forest, and at Cambridge Village. She enjoyed gambling at casinos, playing poker, board games, and scratching lottery tickets. Mary also had an eye for fashion and was known for her stylish attire. One of Mary’s favorite past times was shopping; and everywhere that Mary shopped, she was well-known and liked by the staff. Mary never met a stranger. Mary loved to dance, and especially when she heard the song, “Proud Mary” playing. When Mary wasn’t rocking, she was belly-dancing. Mary performed and taught belly-dancing at the Utica YWCA. There was nothing Mary couldn’t do if she decided to do it. Mary bred, trained, and sold exotic birds. Mary was fearless and devoted in caring for her giant Hyacinth Macaws, Parrots, Toucans, Cockatoos … and a host of smaller birds including Love Birds and Budgies. In addition to training birds, Mary had trained her pet poodles, who she adored. Mary loved spending time in nature. Mary was a gardener. She enjoyed planting flowers and growing vegetables and manicuring her shrubs. Mary was an avid golfer, which afforded her time outdoors with friends, and opportunities to exercise and compete, all which were important to her. Later in life, Mary married Herb Webb, who she referred to as, “the love of her life”. Mary and Herb lived in Syracuse, NY before retiring to Wilmington. Mary and Herb enjoyed many happy years together golfing, boating, bowling, traveling, entertaining, and dining out together, and being involved in Herb’s Rotary activities before he passed. Mary was a force of nature with boundless energy. She lived a full and vibrant life, spreading laughter and goodwill everywhere she went. When Mary entered a room, everyone knew they were about to have fun. Mary will be remembered for many things by her loved ones, including her loving, encouraging, uplifting words, her kind, generous and caring ways, her whimsy, her Large persona, and her ability to make people laugh and feel special. Mary was a one in a million person. Most important to Mary, was her faith in God. Mary loved The Lord. She trusted in Him to see her through her life on earth and into the eternal. Mary drew on her faith for comfort in her peaceful passing. Mary’s said her wish for her family is, “to live with joy and to trust in The Lord”. 3 Mary loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much. They were all a source of great pride for her. Mary was her happiest when she was surrounded by her family and her friends. Mary loved to celebrate - and one of her happiest times was when her entire family gathered to celebrate her 85th birthday for a weekend party extravaganza. Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, you were, The Best. Thank you for your love, your example, and your faith, which you generously shared with us. Mary was pre-deceased by her parents, brothers, son, Brian, and husbands. Mary is survived by her daughter Debbie (Frank) Cardamone, son, Doug (Stephanie) Waite, and daughter, Shari (Dennis) Kloster, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and two special cousins, Maureen (Bob) Pritchard and Wanda (Don) Gregory.
